City of Athens participates in Open Gov Week 2025

The Municipality of Athens proudly announces its active participation in Open Gov Week 2025 through a series of thematic workshops aimed at co-creating its first Action Plan under the OGP Local initiative. These workshops, held on May 17 and 18 at Serafio, brought together citizens, civil society organizations, and professionals to collaboratively address pressing urban challenges.

The workshops focused on four key thematic areas:

  • Energy Democracy and Vulnerability
  • Housing and Sustainable Development
  • Universal Accessibility in Physical and Digital Spaces
  • Transparency, Accountability, and Participatory Budgeting

These sessions facilitated the analysis of public consultation inputs, the exchange of best practices, and the prioritization of actionable commitments to be included in the city's Action Plan.

Notably, this initiative stands as the sole event registered in Greece for Open Gov Week 2025, underscoring Athens's leadership in promoting open governance at the local level. Open Gov Week is a global initiative promoted by the Open Government Partnership to raise public awareness on the values of open government. During this week, reformers around the world come together in public debates, assemblies, hackathons, webinars, sharing stories and good practices to accelerate solutions to their most pressing problems and advance democracy by protecting the right to information, fighting corruption, guarding civic space, combating climate change, improving digital governance, opening up budgets, including all voices, expanding access to justice, ensuring media freedom, and enhancing public participation.
